The Taishi is a youth-led, Japan-focused media collective showcasing the intellectual, creative, and cultural work of young people shaping Japan.
Through journalism, art, film, music, photography, writing, and more, we provide a platform for young people to share their work, tell stories, explore ideas, and connect with opportunities across Japan.
The name Taishi carries two meanings in Japanese.
大使 means “ambassador” — someone who represents something and carries ideas, perspectives, and stories forward.
大志 means “great ambition” or “great aspiration.” It reflects the desire to create, question, build, experiment, and leave something meaningful behind.
Together, those ideas reflect what The Taishi is meant to be: a place where young people can represent their own perspectives while pursuing the ideas and ambitions that matter to them.
Reporting, interviews, essays, analysis, and stories worth paying attention to.
Art, photography, film, music, writing, and things that don’t fit neatly into a category.
Programs, internships, competitions, organizations, calls, and things worth knowing.
A growing network of young journalists, artists, photographers, filmmakers, writers, and people with ideas.
Reporting, essays, photography, art, film, ideas, experiments — send us what you’re making.
